You have got yourself into a muddle with this. A Unicorn Christmas Tree shirt single counter instance disproves a general statement. So an accepted scientific hypothesis is one that has , so far, not been disproved, that is falsified by finding such a counter instance. This is quite consistent with the idea that a negative existential cannot be proved, because it is impossible to inspect all possible instances. Proving a negative existential, e.g.” there are no unicorns”, is quite a different matter from finding a unicorn, which would negate, i.e. disprove the hypothesis that “there are no unicorns existent.”
