Football is becoming more popular here, it has never been THE most popular sport as it competes with sports that were around well before it (cricket, rugby. The match in the youtube link was a grand final, basically the final of a post-regular-season playoff tournament, and they always draw very big crowds. Preseason friendlies like this Champions Cup tournament also draw very well as many Australians have ancestry from European migrants to Australia, and so follow European clubs, and some people just like the showpiece event. Some regular season matches a quite well attended too though, and generally, the average crowds are reasonable. The Sydney (Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers) and Melbourne (Melbourne Victory vs Melbourne City).
